So on December 12th, I (Alvaro) and Francisco did the Spartan Race (http://www.spartanrace.com/ ). I must say it was pretty tough. I wasn’t sure what to expect, and my fitness level is at the lowest point of the year so I planned on taking it easy. Straight from the start we get hosed down with water than jump over a fire, what an interesting way to start the race. Most of the race consisted of very though trail running routes with a lot of steep climbs.
The first major obstacle was jumping over a wall which I easily did. Next was crawling under a tarp, climbing over a net, climbing over a 8’ wall, balancing obstacle, crawling in the mud under barbwire, and the toughest was crossing a water channel with FREEZING WATER! By the time I got out the water my whole body was numb. Right after exiting the water there was a girl vomiting on the side of the trail. As I myself have a weak stomach, after hearing her vomit my stomach turned and I began vomiting too! I covered my ears, closed my eyes and just kept running to get away from her. There was another mud craw under rope and then I ran to the finish. At the finishing point we had to throw a spear, which I missed so I was forced to do 20 pushups, then did a vertical wall climb and sprinted past the gladiators. Finishing time was 43 minutes, placing 15th in my group, not bad. I think I may do another one in the summer if it doesn’t interfere with my triathlon racing schedule, I should place much higher hopefully top 5. Overall, I had a great time kicking some Spartan ass!
